Hello, All:

About 30 citizens showed up Thursday evening for the WB City Council meeting.

Council did not place the free-speech ordinance on the agenda.

About a dozen folks spoke to council about the proposed ordinance .

Pat, Warren, Laurie, and I represented the Center board. Pat offered our concerns to the council in an elegant, courteous, and compelling manner.

Please keep an eye on the newspapers.

Regards...Andy Petonak

I think Robert Ellsberg would be a very good pick.

If he does not accept, I would like to explore inviting Celeste Zapalla -- mother and peace activist of local fallen soldier Sherwood Baker.

Hello All,
I'm proposing a possible speaker for the '08 Barbara Sabol Memorial Lecture. His name is Robert Ellsberg. He is the son of Daniel Ellsberg, who first revealed the Pentagon Papers, I believe in 1969. Robert was a teenager at the time and his father spoke with him about the possibility of him (Daniel) going to jail (because his action would probably lead to the end of the Vietnam War - which it did) and leaving the family without a father. Robert's life has been one of peacemaking and seeking justice. He has authored a number of books. His 'patron saint' is Dorothy Day (of Catholic Worker fame). At the present time, Robert is publisher and editor-in-chief of Orbis Books, an arm of the Maryknoll Missionary Order (noted for its justice work in developing countries). I don't know if he would be willing to come to speak with us for our tiny honorarium, but have a feeling his message would be a great value, especially in an election year. I would like the Board of Directors to give me an ok before I try inviting him. Maybe you have someone else in mind? Please let me know. October isn't all that far off! Peace,
Pat
